Dowsing came into Joe and Marta Smith's life to stay around 1974, when they needed a water well to save some soy beans in a drought. They were successful so then they tried it in some oil wells and that worked, too! They have been hooked ever since. The first pendulum Joe made was in the late 70'. Later came the medallions and other leather work. The "healing" work has been on the front burner for several years now. Joe is a trustee of the ASD and goes to many dowsing conferences - he and Marta give talks on dowsing together most of the time. Joe has been a farmer, a cowboy, a welder and many other things too numerous to mention. He is still farming at the young age of 69 and still enjoys it very much. Life is great for Joe and Marta - they help anyone they can any time they can.

Joe was featured on a Discovery channel called Electric Hands a couple of years ago as an oil dowser and "healer". The quotation marks are there because he feels the healing comes from Heaven, not from him.
